Our Story

The Divine Mercy Catholic Church was established on 29th August 2005, as an out-station of the Christ The King Catholic Church, with a handful of Catholic faithful residing in the East Legon catchment area. From about 11 registered members in 2005, the church has grown to a current registered membership of about 1,000 and still growing.

Attendance at Sunday services range between 500 and 750 (pre covid-19) and currently varying between 200 and 400 during the pandemic [these figures are yet to be confirmed]. As the Church grows in registered membership, the complexity of its needs, both spiritual and physical, have become evident. For example, the members have outgrown the current chapel for regular Sunday masses with a spill over onto the verandas and beyond.

In October 2019, the Church gained the status of a Rectorate and a Priest-In-Charge appointed to administer the affairs of the Church, provide spiritual leadership to the faithful and to steer the community towards the status of a full and independent Parish within the Accra Archdiocese of the Catholic Church. This new status, independent of Christ the King Catholic Church, brings in its wake several new responsibilities. In order to effectively and efficiently address the challenges of the present and re-position towards future growth, the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) inaugurated a 5-year Development Plan and Action Committee to help steer the development of the community through the ensuing five years.
